TravelX, a marketplace for tokenized travel products, went live on Wednesday with the offering of inventory of the low-cost Argentine airline Flybondi.
Holders of each ticket can transfer or even sell it up to 3 days before the flight.
Flybondi, the Argentine airline popularly known for offering low-cost tickets, will become the first airline to use blockchain technology on its tickets. Thanks to a partnership with the TravelX platform, Flybondi will tokenize its tickets and accept cryptocurrencies as a means of payment.
“NFTikects”: that is the name of the tokenized tickets with which the company will be a pioneer in Argentine. As reported in recent days, tickets that wish to pay for their tickets with digital assets will have to do so through Binance Pay. This payment method will not have additional fees, so it will be the same cost as a conventional purchase.
Users will be able to use cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin (BTC) or ether (ETH) to purchase their tickets, as well as stablecoins such as USD Coin (USDC).
“An NFTicket allows whoever buys the ticket to completely own it and do with it whatever they want. The owner will be able to transfer it, sell it, give it away, something that until now was not possible,” explained Juan Pablo Lafosse, CEO and co-founder of TravelX, in dialogue with local media.
The most striking differential that tokenized tickets have over traditional ones is that the owner of each one can transfer or resell it to another passenger up to 72 hours before the plane’s departure. If the airfare goes up, the first holder can even earn money.
Where they can be purchased
NFTickets have been available since last Wednesday on the TravelX website. As a launching and to give more visibility to the initiative, Flybondi is offering discounts and special promotions for those who use this mechanism.
